The Dallas FBICAAA is a proud sponsor of the Doug Woodham Dallas Junior Police Academy (DallasJPA). This year our organization provided the funds for the DallasJPA to have their own challenge coins minted. Since they are funded solely by the public, the Academy is using them as a fund raiser. To order the coins, please see below.
The Dallas Junior Police Academy is a nonprofit corporation. It was founded to teach students to keep themselves safe and, in turn, their community safe. Its motto is MAKING BETTER CHOICES. They have classes for two different age groups. The Basic Class is for students in the 4th-7th grades and is held at the Dallas Police Academy four times a year. The students are shown different aspects of the Dallas Police Department and how to stay away from gangs, drugs, alcohol use, etc. JPA stresses to the students to stay in school, get a good education and be a productive member of society. The class also includes a "show and tell" from the DPD including helicopters, mounted unit, K-9 unit, SWAT team, SCUBA unit, CSI, DWI goggles, etc. The Advanced class is for students in the 8th-10th grades and is held twice a year at Police Headquarters. The agenda includes a trip to the Dallas Police Academy (rides in police cars, physical training, DWI goggles, and force continuum) and to Dallas City Hall/911 Communications Center as well the CSI Lab (where they learn how to do fingerprinting). There are also interactive segments on life skills (including etiquette), personal safety, and internet safety.
The Dallas Junior Police Academy’s website is Dallasjpa.org and includes a three-minute video of a class. Their email is info@dallasjpa.org.
The 2” coins are $15.22 for one coin and $24.12 for two coins including tax, shipping and handling. To order, send an email to info@dallasjpa.org or paula.vanwagoner@dallasjpa.org.
