Dr. Alexander Eastman

Trauma Medical Director and Chief — The Rees-Jones Trauma Center at Parkland

Lieutenant and Deputy Medical Director — Dallas Police Department

Our 3rd quarter meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 27, 2017. Our speaker will be Dr. Alexander Eastman who is the Trauma Medical Director and Chief at The Rees-Jones Trauma Center at Parkland.  He is also the Deputy Medical Director for the Dallas Police Department.  His full bio is below.

He will be discussing the events of July 7, 2016, when four Dallas police officers and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer were killed in downtown Dallas when an armed man ambushed and opened fire on police.  He will also discuss an overall look at the importance of private and public sector emergency medical response planning.

Dinner will be served at 5:30pm and the program will begin at 6:00pm. Security will allow attendees to begin arriving at 5:00pm.  FBI Store will be open from 5pm – 5:45pm.

We ask that every member please register for the meeting (link below) as it helps us to better plan for dinner.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
A valid government issued ID (e.g. Driver’s license) is required for entry to the FBI building.

The FBI prohibits the following items from being brought into their facility. Please be sure to leave them in your vehicle.

Dr. Alex Eastman, MD, MPH, FACS is an Assistant Professor and trauma surgeon in the Division of Burns, Trauma and Critical Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Medical Director and Chief of The Rees-Jones Trauma Center at Parkland Memorial Hospital. A graduate with distinction of the George Washington University School of Medicine, he completed his general surgery and two fellowships at UTSW/Parkland Memorial Hospital. He is board-certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care from the American Board of Surgery, as well as Emergency Medical Services from the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from The University of Texas Health Science Center–Houston.

Dr. Eastman works outside the traditional health care setting as well. He is a Dallas Police Department Lieutenant, the Lead Medical Officer for DPD SWAT and the Deputy Medical Director of the Department. In addition, he was recently appointed as Senior Medical Advisor to the United States Department of Homeland Security. Also at the federal level, Dr. Eastman serves as a Special Deputy United States Marshal on the North Texas Fugitive Task Force. He represents all these agencies on the United States Attorney General’s Officer Safety and Wellness Group. A former firefighter/rescuer in Montgomery County, Maryland, his research/academic interests include the prehospital care of the injured, novel methods of hemostasis, cost effective wound care and the interface between medicine, law enforcement and public health. He is the Medical Advisor to the Major Cities Chiefs Association. Most recently, Dr. Eastman was awarded the 2014 Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award from the University of Texas at Austin and the 2015 Officer of the Year from the Dallas Police Department.
