On July 7, 2016, a planned protest was held at 7:00 p.m. near the Federal Building in downtown Dallas and included an estimated crowd of 1500 persons. At approximately 8:45 p.m., an active shooter targeted, and fired shots at uniformed police officers, killing five officers, wounding seven officers and two civilians.
The FBI’s efforts subsequent to these events demonstrated its clear commitment and leadership to supporting its fellow law enforcement and private sector partners. Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Rick Burkhead will focus on the coordination and collaboration efforts of the FBI with private sector partners for the 10 days following this mass casualty event.
